Ok, I think in a general way as a set of rules this is nearly impossible.

What you can find, are papers about special aspects, e.g. about the
sensation of intimacy in concert halls/initial time delay gap (ITDG)
(see Agustins second post), the spatial impression/ (LF, LEF, IACC, LEV)
e.g. Barron, M.:Spatial impression due to early lateral reflections in concert halls,
Journal of Sound and Vibration, Vol. 77, 1981, and so on.
There are tons of it in the relevant acoustic journals (e.g. JASA, Journal
of sound and Vibration, Acustica, JAES and others).
I think a good way to start with is a book with a summary of all important aspects.
E.g. Ballou (see earlier post), Rossing, T.D.: Springer Handbook of Acoustics.
If You have an overview, start looking for the scientific articles about the special aspects.
Especially the articles about the deriving of new measures include often a presentation
of the subjective relevance of special aspects in the impulse response.
I think thats the way to learn to interpret an impulse response (and the early part of it).

Good luck and have fun!
