If I build a cluster with Renkus-Heinz STX4/44, I DO NOT get this message and ballons look ok. If I build a cluster with EAW AX344 speakers, when I go Edit/Check Data, I get the message "NO SURFACE DEFINED, and the balloons look terrible.

Anybody know why? Help

Thanks very much.

I don't happen to have that EAW model to look at, but the "No Surface Defined" error probably refers to a problem with the loudspeaker's case. I suggest you open the loudspeaker in the Speaker Base and do a Save-As with a different name.

Then select Edit > Case and delete any faces and just connect the vertices with edges. This should resolve the error.

Also, note that you don't need to create clusters for the STX4/44, two, three and four wide clusters are in the RH-Arrays folder and include the effects of our array processing

The same thing happens for me when I try to make clusters with just about any JBL speaker. I will try and edit the cases to see if that makes any difference. Or does anyone else have successfully made cluster with for example the MRX512M or AC2212? I'm new at this so I have probably made something wrong.

Does any of this really matter?
The cluster builder is all about building a set of balloon data of far field dispersion for the set of loudspeakers the user assembles.
The case data is only ussed to align the cabinets.
It has no acoustic significance in the cluster builder.
The error message from the room edit engine - "no surface defined" has no need of concern - click on OK and all will work well.
If the balloon looks horrible it has everything to do with the loudspeakers acoustic data and nought to do with the cabinet data other than cabinet data defines how close the cabinets can be placed in real life.!
