I am working on a project that I've included over 300 two-fold faces as acoustic baffles. I now need to reduce the height of each of these identical faces by raising the bottom edges 12". Any way to do this?

Thanks!

Rob

Hi Rob,

Make an Object of all of the faces you want to move, then use Move Object under the Tools menu. Selecting the faces to be a part of the object is the hard part. The brute-force way is to use the Magic Wand tool to select them individually in Create Object.

The more elegant way is to identify them in the Face table, (Edit > Tables > Faces) either by material, color or that they are two-fold. Then, select every face in the project, except the ones you want to move, in the table. (Shift and Ctrl-click to select multiple items) Then, from the Tools menu, select "Set Value To" and set all of the faces that aren't the acoustic baffles to be invisible. (Vis to False. If symmetry is on, Img to False as well.) Close the table, and the only visible faces will be your baffles.

Now, from the mouse menu, select "Activate Items." Dragging a rectangle will activate--turn red--all items touched by the rectangle. With all of the desired faces active, select Insert > Create Object and when asked, click OK to add all active faces to the Object. Then you can use Move Object. Go back to the Face table, select all faces and set Vis to True and Img to True for all faces.

Sorry if my inquiry was not clear enough.. I'm not looking to move or shift all of the faces, but rather change the size of all of them (12" shorter to bring the bottoms of them up in elevation).

Thanks

Hi Rob,

So, you need to move a sub-set of the vertices comprising the faces.

1) Make a face that includes all of the vertices you want to move--doesn't have to be planar--and shift the face by a foot in the direction you need.

2) Make an object containing the vertices that you need to move and use the Move Object tool.

You might make the baffles into an object as described above, then save the object as a separate project to make it easier to work on.

Hi Rob. This is how I would do it:

1) Menu-Mouse >Active Items

2) Press X or Y in the keybord to set a front view of the pannels

3) Turn off "show faces" option. (only show the vertex)

4) Select de all the vertex from the bottom (with the "Active Items" mouse option selected, holding down the left click). The bottom vertex are now red lighted (they are "actived)

5) Menu-Insert > Create Object

6) Create the object that is composed of the bottom vertexs

7) Once the object is created, select it from the draw and then right click > displace

8 ) Especify the height that you want to reduce and done!

You can delete the Object created for the vertex from the Object Table.

Regards!

If the bottoms of the faces you want to shorten are at height that is not shared by lots of other faces, you can do this relatively quickly in the vertex table. Open the vertex table and with a mixture of shift click and control click, select all the vertexes that form the lower edge of the faces (by looking at the Z value). If a lot of other vertexes have the same Z value this might not be practical. Once you have selected all the vertexes, use set value to to set all the Z values to your desired height. You can also increase the Z value by 12" for all selected vertexes if they happen to be at multiple heights.
