Ray trace is escaping room model

Hi,

I have created a model for a swimming pool hall. I am studying the reflection patterns using ray tracing, but I have discovered a ray which actually escapes from inside the room and shoots off into the surrounding void. I have run several ray tracing calculations and it has only occured during one simulation. I have carefully stepped through the movie mode and discovered the ray slips through the junction between two surfaces. Can you offer any input on why this has happened?

FYI, EASE does not report any holes in the room module.

I have provided images to show this.

Many thanks,

Matt Coston

Hi Matt,

Is the room open or closed? In Edit Project, Edit > Room Data, Data tab, is there a check mark next to Room Open?

If the room is open, EASE does only a rudimentary check for holes, mainly just face orientation, and so would miss what I think is the problem in this case. Most likely you have faces that don't share all intersecting vertices.

Jim,

Thank you for the reply. I must admit; I was expecting to receive an email notification that you had replied to my question, but this never materialised (hence the lateness of this post). I must have unknowingly disabled this feature.

Anyway, yes I have checked that the room is closed and that all the surfaces in the vicinity share the same intersecting vertices.

Any other ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Matt

Hi Matt,

I don't know what's happening in this case. Can you pack and e-mail me the model?
