I'm just about to receive a new PC which has the 64bit version of windows XP. Does anyone know of any compatibility problems with this platform and EASE 4.1? Any information on the subject would be appreciated

I can NOT say for sure, because I do not have a personal copy of ease on any of my 64 bit machines. However I have run windows XP Pro 64 bit and quickly went back to the 32 bit version. It was a while ago and mostly like the os had bugs of it's own. I was able to run my regular 32 bit aps just fine on it.

However if you discover you have issues, try going back down the 32 bit windows. The 32 bit windows will run approximately 20% faster on most machines from some of the numbers i've found. So running a 32 bit os and apps on a 64 bit machine will give you a performance boost.

No matter what, not a bad choice on the 64 bit chip. It's the only thing I get now. I just wish the os's would catch up, and work with them.

Good luck. Let us know how it works.

I haven't a name brand as such. My company employ's IT specialists to build and test the PC I specified. I decided to go down the AMD route (because they tend to be cheaper) with a 4000 (san diego 64bit) Sata hard drive, Nvidia 7800GT and 2gig of Ram.

I've been told that Intel based machines are better for multimedia applications, I don't know how true it is though.

Everything seems to be fine though I haven't had any problems with the 64bit version, I'm glad I decided to take the plunge.

Hi, I am using a new AMD Dual Core X64 also, along with two large SATA drives and an SLI capable nVidia 7800GTX. Equipped with 2GB Dual-Channel RAM, this PC is quite fast.

The nice thing about Dual Cores is that you can let EASE run a lengthy simulation in the background without significantly slowing down your working environment. It just runs on one of the two processors.

Also, note that fast Dual-Channel RAM makes a big difference in overall performance. I would strongly recommend to always use this configuration.

However, I am not using a 64bit OS. From what I have heard there are still not many drivers available and there are plenty of small bugs. Indeed you should only truly need 64bit if you want to use more than 2GB RAM.

Stefans right about only needing 64bit windows if you use more than 2gig of ram and non existant drivers (especially for printers). Xerox are an exception and HP are getting there.

I however am just gearing up for the day I install more ram and when 64bit software is available (i.e. solidworks sometime in the not to distant future).

So for now it's probably best for most of you (thinking of upgrading) to stick to 32bit operating systems.

Last post on this topic is now two years old. Is there any new information about EASE taking advantage of multiple cores, 64bit OS, etc. Is this planned for the near future?

Also, any users out there with current compatability information with Vista 64 and 32.

We're making the move and just want to see what the general concensus is these days.

Thanks
