Description:
Unable to select face if it ends up with a double vertice inserted into it as a result of displacing one vertice on top of another and deleting stacked vertices during the process of constructing a complex room.

Version #: 4.1.0.7

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Create a multi-sided face (say one with 50+ sides) in a very complex room (500+ faces). Maybe it does the same thing in a smaller model, haven't had time to try it yet.
  2. Using the displace tool, displace one vertice so that it overlaps another next to it.
  3. On the tools menu, "Delete Stacked Vertices"
  4. Now try selecting the face with the pick item tool! You can't! It's as if the face vanished!
  5. Curse under your breath at the prospect of having to recreate a face with 50+ sides! Shocked
  6. Do a F6 Save Project Data command, then breath a very heavy sigh of relief Surprised when an error message pops up complaining about the double vertice in the face, and the face finally becomes selected with an open data window, in which you can go in and delete the double vertice!

I guess it's not a major problem since the face becomes selected during the room checks with the save project data routine, but it did have me very concerned for a few stressful moments there, I even went through the trouble of creating a new 68 sided face the first time before I discovered a pattern to this behaviour! Oi! Razz

Hi Arthur,

It may well be that the deleted vertex created a face that did not have a "plane" for the mouse to click on. Here are a few other ways to get it selected:

    • Open the Face Table.
    • Select the Face in the Table.
    • Close the Table.
    • The Face will remain selected and an [F4] will now open the Property dialog.

    • Use [Shift-F4] to select the Face by it's label.
    • Then use [Shift-F11] and [Shift-F12] to step through the faces.
    • [F4] will now open the Property dialog.

    • Select any other Face.
    • Then use [Shift-F11] and [Shift-F12] to step through the faces.
    • [F4] will now open the Property dialog.
